I'd have a beemer over a Civic, no question, Civic is turning into a right chav wagon? Head v Brick Wall
Head v Brick Wall

With my past record I'd prefer a Civic...they are smaller and still have the sporty element! I'm less likely to crash, parts are cheaper (if I do crash)...petrol will be better, the beemer is shite on petrol in traffic as we have found out! Overall, the idea of us sharing a car is to save money, but now your being ridiculous looking at massive engined sports cars!  Head v Brick Wall  nono

Be told 318ci 320cd or 330cd all better on fuel although it may be difficult to get hold of the diesels.

Have you had prices on Honda parts? I doubt they're much cheaper. Sorry Emma!

Driven one of these, only the 190 version, and the salesman didn't seem to want to let me put my foot down, but it was an awesome drive, stuck like glue and sounded like a jet engine or something. Loved the seating position and feel of it, long bonnet rising and falling in front of you, was a cool car  Grin

Thats a bit different!! They're quite a cool looking car really, what with the rear doors so small, it looks like a coupe etc!  Grin

I've no idea about running costs, but heres a link to what the tax will be (i just picked the '192PS 4 door' version as an example):

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/Default.aspx?deriv=24869

..... as you can see, £400!!  Head v Brick Wall

Here's a couple to get you started tho lol!  occasion14

The first on (cupra R) is a possibility, will have to ask Dan what they are like. Will be a bit pricey to drive though, but I do like it!

I think everyone will agree that this is by far the best option so far, as in looks, price, and equipment!!! Wink

Cupras are great - we had a 2003 one at work.  Was the 185bhp Cupra, not the 225 Cupra 'R' though.  6 speed, 1.8 turbo, great handling despite being front wheel drive and a real hoot on an open road or a back road.  Was really civilised in town too.  Only down side was that they're a pain in the arse to reverse.  The rear window's tiny, you can't see out of the rear quarters, and because the boot's so high off the ground, it's hard to judge how close the object behind is.

Climate control, 6 disc CD changer and leather seats are a must though.  The Diesel Cupra's are pretty nippy too, and being a diesel use half as much fuel.  Wasn't so keen when they were rebadged them to "FR", and don't like the Mark 2 Leons.

I would have the BMW over any of the other cars mentioned in this thread. I was a BMW technician for the last 15 yrs and really rate the build quality and reliability. The sort of models your looking at do have the odd "usual problems" but not really anything thats gonna cost alot to fix. I left BMW last year for Porsche and can still get a bit of discount on parts if you ever needed, but places like GSF do excellent stuff for BM's now.

If you wanted, I'd have a look at the motor with you before you parted with your cash.
