Ladies and gentlemen, I present F481 NLF...a little bit noisy as expected after a cold start after a rebuild, but nevertheless:

Absolutely Wink

It's a bit noisy as theres 16 new tappets that have yet to get their act together.  I screwed up installation of the fuel rail, so fuel was pissing out behind injector number 2 so didn't let it run long enough to run up to temperature.  That'll be fixed imminently though Wink

Nope, same standard cams. Wink

but not a new standard cam i mean?
I may be off target here with a YB, but it was my understanding that new tappets on an old worn cam will make as much noise as old tappets did as both the cam and followers need changing, or one just accelerates the wear of the other until they're as bad as the ones you just took out!

They're hydraulic, so any 'slack' is simply taken up by the tappet Wink  Besides, they weren't exactly 'worn down', but are by no means BD14s Wink

Right, although everything's largely normal, there's only two things left to work out.

1) a nasty burnt rubber smell, the source of which isn't immediately obvious
2) a slight air leak preventing full boost from being achieved

Hopefully I'll have these ready for the rolling road day.

You got me there Wink  btw - I've found a fix for the forum.  If it's not working at all tomorrow, it means I've failed miserably. Tongue
