It's OK, you can remove the 'shock horror' from your face - I'm not breaking mine!

I just thought I'd let you all know what I think of people who 'break' Cossies.

As far as I can tell, there are two types of Cossie owner.  The ones who love them for what they are and do their best to keep them in one piece, and those that see Huh?Huh?Huh?'s when they hear the name.

The ones that see ? signs I class as pikeys.  Simply: if you'd bought it because you wanted the best of the best, why break it?  You can't drive it in pieces for Christ's sake!!  You know when you buy a Cossie that unless it's dealer fresh and you keep it that way, you're gonna lose money, if nothing else from sticking fuel in the tank!  You can't break a car just because it owes you petrol money!!

You don't buy a Cossie just to break it - if all Cossie owners did that there wouldn't be any left - there'd just be piles of bits dotted around the country!  It really grips my shit when there's a new topic on the various Ford forums, or indeed ebay, titled "Cosworth, breaking" when it's perfectly drivable.  Why break it?  That car could be someone's first Cossie - someone who DOESN'T want to have to stick it together like a great big meccano model.  I don't have a workshop to build a car in, so surely there are others in the same spot?  I really can't understand it.  Why break a perfectly good motor?

Ebay's especially bad - every time I find one, I just can't help but think it's been nicked.

Don't get me wrong - relatively well mashed up Cossie is no use to anyone, so by all means, take the unbroken parts to help fix another one.  I saw an advert somewhere recently, titled '2wd Cosworth for breaking' - 2 owners from new (I think), average mileage, immaculate condition - so why break it?  If you wanted to make a profit, why buy it and put yourself ?5k down in the first place?  Why not let someone who wants a WHOLE car that they can DRIVE AWAY have a go at buying it?  What use are pieces of a car to someone who wants to drive a whole one?  Am I missing something?

And what happens when they've broken them all?  There'll be none left to break, then what?  The world will be devoid of these wonderful machines, just so Billy-Bob can make a few quid to spend down the pub!

The other type of Cossie owners won't do that.  I'll only break mine if the shell become irrecoverable, after an accident or from rust, and even then, I'll salvage as much as I can to keep for spares for the Cossie that replaces it, because chances are, it will have been broken before I buy it!

I bought mine knowing that it'd probably bankrupt me, simply because of what it is.  It's notoriously desirable by thieves, whether or not it's 33% P38, so insurance will always be high.  It's a racing car, so it'll always drink fuel.  It's designed to be driven hard, so parts will need replacing.  It's old, so bits will need renewing.  I didn't buy it to make a profit, I bought it because I wanted to drive one and say "That's mine!"

This'll probably start an argument or two, but it's simply what I think.

totally agree with everything u just said mate Grin unfortunately thewre are loads of people in his world out to make a quick few quid. the most uinfortunate ting is that the more that get roken the less there are around so the more valuable an therefore desirable to thieves the ones that are left become!!!
