im sure some modified cars running carbs also have an ecu 4 ignition timing? Or am i just as confused?

You need to speak to Ray at T and M Auto Electrical in Colchester. Old boy that specialises in old skool tuning of carbs, he set my MK2 Escort up running a 2.1 Pinto on twin 45's to produce 175bhp.
