The Central Group have Central Day, which we all (the whole RSOC) gladly trundle along to.

Who thinks it's within our ability to arrange a similar day, potentially at Snetterton?

Would that mean that we can take our motors round the track for a day??? I'm bloody in!! (spare tyres on standby!!)

Me, Gooey and Mini could race our fiesta's round the track in a non-RS, N/A Engine, kinda representation  Tongue

And indeed David and Matt's.

You are joking right? Do you have the first clue of the amount of work, and upfront cash that goes into planning a day such as central day??? We, as a group can't organise a BBQ, let alone a day like that. It ain't never goin to happen, so don't even think about getting exited about it!!

Yes I do realise the effort involved - that's partially why I suggested it, and I also believe that the end result is worth it.  Besides, it's an idea - we're supposed to be having and encouraging ideas for the group to help move it forward, so we don't get stuck in a rut, and to try and put the Norfolk Group 'on the map', so to speak.  Or at least so we're not known only as "The RS Group with no banner".

On another note, you are right though, we've not even successfully organised a trip to the seaside.

This has been looked at before and was binned due to costs, insurance and all the other marlarky.

Tis a good idea thats been bandied about a few times.

Maybe RSOC would assist in the setup, would be a good starting point I guess.

I like the idea of putting on a show like central day to promote the Norfolk group but i imagine it would be quite expensive to hire Snetterton with all the marshalls etc, i wonder if we'd get enough people through the gates to cover costs, but if we got some traders there and had the track open it could be good.

To be honest I think churchy is right, and as a group it would be a struggle. No disrespect to the group, as i enjoyed being a member for 3 years but it always seemed to be the same few faces attending shows and meets regularly.

Sorry....   Lips Sealed

Surely we could drum up enough support from the surrounding groups if we tried...?

I don't want to resign a good idea because no-one wants to try and put at least some effort into it.

If the idea was looked into previously, it must mean that there was enough interest to warrant researching it, so why not look into it again - costs may have come down (optimistic I know, but I like optimism), other groups might appreciate the trip just for another excuse for the buftys to show and shine, and for the track nuts to try a different track to their usual, etc etc, and most of all, we get a little kudos for the show and show that the RS is alive in Norfolk and that we don't all drive tractors and hang around with a piece of straw hanging from our bottom lip.  Bear in mind that generally, the only wide reaching publicity we get is when there's an article in Performance Ford about a new piece of Mike's engine or gearbox exploding on the 'ring, and even then, I bet that most people who read it won't realise he's the Chairman of the Norfolk RS group, let alone where Norfolk is!

We can't well 'move forward' (where has that phrase come from?  I hear it all the time in meetings at work now, must be the lovechild of a stoned marketing gimp) if we're happy to plod along, silently trolling along to shows during the year, doing the same old things in the same old places.

Paul's summed it up there really - 3 years, and all he's seen are the same few faces at shows and meets.  Yes, that's great that there are always the die-hard regulars, I whole heartedly intend on being one, long after my RS has rusted away (I know what Churchy will say about that!) but  just turning up in the same place(s), and not drawing attention to ourselves is hardly going to draw in the new members that we're so eager to attract!

Thats one of the reasons I was a little disappointed that the little trip to the sea-front didn't happen - an ideal opportunity to advertise ourselves to the local yoof - and indeed any passing enthusiasts, and show that there IS something better than Plastic Pugs and Chronic Civics in our part of the country.  Whilst I know we're keen not to attract the 'wrong crowd', we might spark someone's interest and bring them 'into the light'.  Now that's what I call a conversion - a rwd Focus has nothing on that!

We have a new venue for the next meet (note to self: update the website), which may hopefully encourage some new potential members to come and find us....fingers crossed eh?

The trouble with attracting new members is there are no new RS models coming out, and the ones that are about are only getting older and fewer. After the insurance friendly corsa and saxo gets sold, the yoof are after jap crap, evo's, scooby's,  cause they are still bein made, their on the gran turismo games etc... Cossies are cars of the 80's/90's, i.e, our era, our childhood dream cars. IMO Ford need to pull their finger out and stop making luke warm, fwd sports cars, and give us the 400bhp fire spitting, rally derivative that we all crave! Getting rid of homologation was the worst thing the FIA could have done, cunts!!!

Great - now we have a figure to at least aim/work for, if we want to.

Which begs the next question - where do the Central Group get their funding to hire (presumably it's hired?) Santa Pod for a weekend?

I'll bring a couple of buckets for a whip round at the end of the month, now we have a target to aim for lol!!!

Mike dropped some loose change out of his pocket when he was down that way Wink

Santa Pod is considerably cheaper to hire than Snetterton for a start.  I also think that Santa Pod do it by taking a commission of the ticket sales (as they are almost gaurenteed a good showing)?  However, all the race circuits want the money up front.

The other trouble with Snetty as a location is the distance you have to travel down the A14, look how many people moaned about driving 20miles down it to get to Rockingham last year.

Alot of people would come if it was a Saturday night camp and then a Sunday show/track action, Imo Camping is a massive thing for getting people to shows now. You also want it in the summer months to atleast give yourself half a chance of Sun.

A combined effort of Norfolk, Essex, North Essex groups would make spreading things out easier. I would have helped out but as i am out of the RAF in less than a Year i wouldnt want to commit to something i wouldnt be able to see through.

I thought I would interject at this point, even though I'm no an owner or full blown member, but, being the chavvy oik I am, I am known to venture to the sea front on the odd Sunday evening, and in the summer months there is nearly always RS Turbo's and the odd Saph floating about, none of which are attendees of our fair meeting each month. Obviously they may be the 'wrong crowd', but it could be worth a try as several of the cars seem very tidy, certainly not your average fibreglass wonder!

Also, on the subject of shows, I know track based shows are very much the fashion, but could a static show not be pulled off? For the last 3 or so years I've attended the Sporting Escorts Club's National Day, that was held at Stanford Hall in Leicestershire and, although small, was a very nice day out in a picturesque setting. Norfolk is hardly short of such places, so it's an option at least, and considerably cheaper than track hire
