Whilst reading about how diesels work on wikipedia, I found this bad boy:



4 cylinder
400 cubic inch capacity (6.5 litre)
500lb/f torque @ 2000rpm
200hp @ 2000rpm

bit like a boxer engine isn't it? That's quite a lot of torque but not much power for the buck, that said it all comes in bloody early, and i suppose you wouldn't need to run it above 2000rpm if that's its peak!!? hummmmm.
Does it say where that type of engine is implemented?

(Damn i love cool engine .gif images ;-) Nice find!)

A boxer engine has independantly connected pistons - as you can see this one has two attached to each other, turning the crankshaft with a scotch yoke.  There's no valves or cams - just inlet, or 'transfer' ports, and exhaust ports.
