I'm going to replace the fuel pump on me cos when its resurrected for the year, but do I go for a new std one, or a group A, high pressure jobbie, which is twice the price?

And, also, the wireing obviously needs to be changed too, I've heard people run a wire straight to the battery via a relay. Can anyone shed any light on this for me, and possibe cost?

Thankyou please Smiley

Just drive to mine and I'll do it for you, cost about ?3.50p for the rewire, with relay, holder, and fuse!!
A std pump will fuel to around 380 bhp, mine runs 330 with std pump fine, need new copper washers as well, but I have these, do the fuel filter at the same time, only take an extra five minutes, about ?15 for fuel filter.
Basically run wire from battery, through fuse to rear of car, cut wires about so original wire merely switches relay, ON/OFF as usual.
I put the relay up behind the rear seat on the nearside as it is hidden and well out of the way then, using a relay holder to mount it, conveniently there is already a 8mm hole there to secure the relay holder to.
This keeps the original FUEL CUT OUT, so still safe.
I SOLDER every joint with PURE SILVER solder, and heat shrink afterwards with adhesive lined heatshrink, so moisture cannot get in.
I would allow about 3 hours to do.

You don't need a Group A pump - you don't drive it hard enough Tongue

I've got my pump and filter, just not had chance (well, weather) to do it.  Tabs:  I went and reset my CO yesterday, now hovers around 2.5% Grin

Cheers tabs, will take you up on that when its up and running! Will sort you out for the help of coarse! I do think its time it was changed, as far as I know, its the original, and according to APT's rollers, is leaning out on the top end!

They're talking crap!!
I have  seen with my own eyes a engine on dark greens(803's) do repeatedly 377, they are certainly good for 360 all day long.

APT are very limited on their cossie knowlage. Shame really, because I'm sure they'd be a market in the area for a decent cossie tuner, as in most of East Anglia! They jus don't rate them, as they prefer Jap crap Skyline wannabe's which are 200sx's Wink

I don't doubt their workmanship for 1 second, I can't complain about any work they've done to mine, which is most. They jus lack the mapping software and inclination to work on them.

Its pretty much the same wherever you go. If I went to Harvey, the first thing he'd want to do would be to get rid of the MSD chip I have, in favor for of an Ahmed one, which is ?300+ straight away before he even looks at it. I dont want a new ECU, it doesnt need it, the L8 can do just about everything now.

I get a tax rebait to the tune of 1k later in the year, I was thinking of a new intercooler, injectors, bigger exhaust housing, and 380 odd bhp, but then there is the gearbox an diffs, plus engine loom, and so on..............

The engine, especially the bottom end, had been built for 400bhp +, but the transmission is the killer. Does anyone know how hard it is to put a skyline box in if I do the machining on the housing myself???

I had two MSD chips, neither of which would work, without the biggest hole in the mid range you had ever seen, it was bloody dangerous especially in the wet, ask daz cos how it spins up!!
I can get complete mapping done for ?280, that is from scratch with no info put in whatsoever .
I am using emerald as I want closed loop,AL,LC, in gear boost triple map for LPG etc, even L8+P8 don't even approach the capabilites of a modern ecu.
For the cost of getting a L8 modded to Cl and coilpack you can but a brand new emerald, designed in house(by Karl).
I had to book some time on the rollers to get rid of a problem, and the problem was the MSD chip, despite being a replacement for the first one that had the same fault, ie massive hole between 1800-2500.
I changed the chip for another, BINGO problem goes immediately, put back in problem back.
MSD were honourable though and immediately gave a refund when I sent the chip back, so got to give them credit for that.
The modded head really has brought the engine alive, with useable boost from 1500rpm, full boost from 2000rpm, drives almost perfect, just juggling with TPS, to get it perfect, fuel shut off operating too early, so increasing TPS output a tad at a time.
I had to do this anyway as when it is cold it develops boost on fast idle enough to operate amal valve, and it is clicking like mad getting confused with closed throttle!!

the skyline gearbox s a conversion is good especially utilising the switchable front to rear power shift. however to put it into perspective, reyland charge 5K to either to supply anffit or just to fit a skyline gearbox to a cossie. the trans tunnel needs modifying for starters.

I thought the skyline internals were built into the mt75 box, 3k for all the bits, extra to fit it all. To have an actual skyline box fitted is somewhere in the 10k region!
Maybe fixit is the way forward then?

Mullit box is around ?3k
Skyline conversion is totally different and uses the whole Box.
The ?10k version is for the OS Giken race box, you can have a standard box fitted or one with uprated gears which would be alot less than the OS Giken version.

Or you could do what some dutch people have done and have them frozen, and they are running 550bhp through them, for less than ?250.

BY freezing to absolute zero, -286C for 24 hours, you change the MARTENSITE + AUSTENSITE properties of the metal.
In more simple terms it makes things MASSIVELY STRONGER, and vastly more fatigue resistant, can be applied to pretty much anything metallic.
NASCAR + INDY all use this technique to fantastic effect.
