From what I've heard there's a substantial contingent going from the Norfolk Group this year, so hopefully the convoy will be a little longer than the pissy little 3 car convoy as it has been for that last year of two Crying  It's going to be BUSY (some clubs nearly didn't get a space because there was no room!) so it'd be awesome if we can get off a little earlier than usual (which for me is going to be a genuine challenge!).  Please have some Mac D's coffee waiting for me at Sainsburys. Crying

I propose the normal stops at the following times.  Please have a pee break at these stops as I'd prefer not to stop once we've left Newmarket.  Be prepared to use the loud pedal, there'll be no fannying about at 60 or keeping to bufty-revs unless we're looking after someone with a mechanical problem or negotiating speed limits.

I have the flags, Jo has the gazebo, and I think Matt has the banner - if he's not going I'll have to go and recover the banner.  Don't forget I'll be bringing some form of BBQ, and maybe even some food to put on it Crying

Reply here and let me know where you're going to be joining the convoy and I'll edit this post so everyone knows who's going to be where.  Afro

A11/A47, Total Thickthorn R/A, Norwich: 0600ish
  • Dan Smith, Escort Cosworth
  • Carl & Trev Boardman, Focus RS
A11, Sainsburys Thetford: 0630ish
  • Me, Sapphire Cosworth
A11, Esso Barton Mills R/A: 0645ish
A14, BP Newmarket Heath: 0715ish

Hopefully arrive at Silverstone around 0900

Those on alternative routes:
  • bil n kel
  • Steve J, Fiesta RS Turbo (I HOPE!)

Make sure your rad fans and thermostats are in good working order Crying

It's unlikely that we'll find anyone at Cambridge Services, so if for some reason you're actually going to be there, please shout now, otherwise we won't be stopping there.

I'd have to leave home around half 5 to meet those times which is way too early for me, especially with a wedding reception the night before (as usual we have the furthest to drive)..... i'm planning on leaving at 6 ish to get there for 9 ish or just before so will see you all there most likely thumbsup

Who wants to meet up at the thickthorn services at 6:00 - 6:15 am and then leave shortly after to have a proper RS convoy to ford fair? It would be good to see a full range of different types of RS's on the road all at once!

We can stop off at Thetford to meet up with chris? Is there anybody else that can meet us?

If you want to meet up put your full name and model of car.

I'll go first:-

The plan now is to try and catch you gentlemen up while on the way, we'll be leaving here at 6 putting us about half an hour behind those meeting at thickthorn at 6 BUT if your all stopping at least 2 or 3 times, that should let us make up the difference Wink

If we don't catch up, that's coolio and shall see you all there but, if we do catch up, that will be  Cool

BTW, I know Carl and his Dad are going so keep an eye out for them at Thickthorn. Carl said he'd keep an eye on the forum tho so i'm sure he'll see this  thumbsup

I am taking the focus with dad and his mate as passengers, so just the one car for us.

As much as i like a good convoy, I am not much of a morning person, so to save time and unnecessary faffing about we usually meet the Relph's at Barton Mills and go straight on from there. Not sure what time we will be meeting though as it's been a couple of years since i last went to Silverstone. I know it's usually rediculously early, but at least that way the roads are nice and clear!  Evil

Also just a nugget of useful information for anyone that gets detached from the group or isn't travelling with the rest of us, having explored the local area last year, ignore the SatNav and try this little detour to avoid the queue of traffic that builds up on the A43 approaching the circuit...

While on the A43, you'll go over a roundabout that crosses the A5.  Go over this as normal and follow the queue of broken down Fords along the A43 over the next roundabout.

A mile and a half after that roundabout is a junction which leaves the A43 for the A413 - take it, and turn right at the top to cross the A43.  At the roundabout on the other side, turn left and go towards Silverstone village.  Go through the village, and just as you come out of it, take a left.  This will bypass the two mile long queue getting into Silverstone on the A43.  Instead you should merge with a lower volume of traffic and cross the flyover which you would usually use to leave Silverstone.

ok, change of plan for me.

I am now going in my car instead of Mike Rose Escort as he has injured his back.
This means I will also need to collect him, so I will try to arrange the time we leave to meet you at Barton Mills petrol station.

If we are not there give me a call to see how far we are away.
