Is it just me that gets totall fucked off with pikey bastards doing this:

http://passionford.com/forum/restorations-rebuilds-and-projects/396968-nova-cosworth-4x4.html

Why the fuck butcher a Sierra Cosworth and build a cut'n'shut Nova with it's engine and floorpan?  I don't understand the mentality of some people!  Hope the ignorant twat crashes it and all his dodgy floorpan welds split and kill him.  Fucking oxygen thief.  Head v Brick Wall Head v Brick Wall Head v Brick Wall

It is a waste, on both counts really. Despite all the piss-taking over the years, even the Nova is getting to be quite rare these days. Think it's a shame to see any old sporty car being cut up really. No doubt it will be lairy when it's done, but I do think its a shame in many ways.

Doesn't look like he's used much in the way of a jig when building it, so I do wonder if it will be much to drive when done!

Like I said on PF - it'll be rapid, no doubt.  Anything with a 400bhp YB under the bonnet would be.  Even a Granada would be a formidable weapon with that in place of a V6 boat anchor.

I really do hope he wrecks it on the first outing.

A bit harsh to wish what you have on him :p.  At the end of the day, he's a petrol-head and just becuase you don't agree with what he has done, why would you wish death and destruction on someone for just having a different viewpoint to your own?  You would do well to join the Taliban Tongue.

Because that's how much it fucks me off.  Besides, my counter argument is if he were actually a petrolhead and not a retard, he wouldn't be using any part of a crappy old Nova - he'd have had the sense to weigh it in as scrap to go towards fuelling the Sierra.  People like this shouldn't be encouraged, and certainly shouldn't be permitted to procreate without a license, else their children will continue the defective gene pool.  Instead they should be studied in laboratories so that scientists can discover how they manage to evade natural selection.

Knowing that any Sierra (particularly a Cosworth, of which I am extremely passionate about) has been cut up simply to donate bits to a project that doesn't involve reparing another of the same really grips my shit.  In fact right now, I can feel my bowels being twisted just knowing that this "Nova" is being built.

Gutting an unsalvageable rotbox of a Cossie to revive another Cossie is one thing - I can appreciate, and welcome that.  There's few enough of them as it is without turning the remainder into scrap "because it's cheaper" or "because this will be more fun" or "because it's only a Sierra", need I go on?

Call it RS snobbery if you want, but why bother doing ANYTHING with a Vauxhall Beantin???  Maybe I should cut the floorpan out of my Saff, and tack weld a Nova floorpan in, dump the Cosworth engine, and replace it with the lump of pig iron from a Nova 1.3SR!!!  Yeah I'd have something different and awesome because it uses the best parts of the Nova to make my Sapphire Cosworth so much better than it was before!  I'd even put a Vauxhall badge on the back to show off my ingenuity!

To look at it from the other, slightly less anti-Vaux, side; what about the Nova? All well and good calling it a beantin, but getting pretty rare in itself now, and a pretty iconic 80s hatch, which had a pretty useful rally career too.

Just as criminal to butcher a decent Nova shell as the Saph in my eyes.

from that point of view, yes I totally agree.

However I was a bit harsh, and after apologising to the owner in question, he said he also believes cutting up a genuine cosworth is a crime, which is fine, and better still, once he's had fun with the nova he'll probably transplant the engine etc into an escort cosworth shell to save one of those from the skip.

Humble pie for one, please waiter.

I haven't actually read the passionford thread as it is blocked at work, but at the risk of upsetting a few people, I would love to have something like this! We have an old nova and despite having a bit of rust round the edges, it is a fantasic little car.

I often used to think about putting my RS turbo engine in to a mini as i've always been rather fond of them, but knowing how crazy Matt's mini was i thought better of it. I do love to see something a little bit different though, especially when they go like a rocket!

Just to stir things up a little bit more, what is your take on cossie powered Mk1 and 2 escorts, and Focus RS engined Puma's etc??  Grin

To clarify my little "outburst", my problem is that I hate seeing perfectly MOTable Cossies being turned into scrap for fun.  In this instance, I'd jumped the gun like a pleb and gotten on my soap box without having the facts beforehand - no genuine Cossie was harmed in the creation of that particular Nova.  I therefore apologised and ate much humble pie.

In a nutshell, I love Sierras to bits, but I'd sooner see them in one piece!  I just hate to see them get broken up.

For example if someone built a YB powered Mk1 Escort, by first purchasing a Sapphire Cosworth and then ripping the engine out before sending the rest of the car to meet its maker, I'd be "disappointed" that he'd not respected the Saff for what it is.  If however the donor had been mashed up in an accident, then by all means use the engine, gearbox etc.  Personally I think they should go towards bringing another genuine Cossie back to life, but that's just my opinion...

I believe there'll come a point where it'll be a novelty to see a Sierra with a Cosworth engine in it, because the engines will be in everything but.  No-one will know what an Escort RS2000's original twin-carbed Pinto looks like because they'll all be sporting YBs.

Personally I find a Mk2 Escort with well prepped Pinto or BDA immensely more interesting to look at and appreciate than a Mk2 Escort sporting a mildly (or wildly) tuned YB - I have a YB, I know what they look like, and what they're capable of!

I've never really been a big fan of Pumas though I appreciate they have a following of their own and are perfectly capable machines in their own right.  So to that end, why change it?

Anyone that says "I'm going to do something different so I'm going to put a Cossie engine in it" isn't really doing anything different at all in my opinion, as everything's already been featured on "You've Been Cossied", and it almost seems like a lazy way to make a car more powerful.  Why not save the effort and just drive the Sierra?  It has electric windows, central locking and four doors, and in posh ones, a CD player too - what more could you want?

Most people would say that dwindling numbers makes the remaining Sierra Cossies more valuable.  In my eyes, that's a load of tosh because to me, a car's worth what a buyer's willing to pay, and even if it were true, it also means they're more likely to get picked up by a car thief's radar.

As I see it, the more disappear, the more difficult it'll become for me to find another real Cossie if mine ever gets nicked or irreparably bent.  I had a similar rant long ago and one thing I'll always stick by is that there'll be a point where the only way to buy a Sapphire (or 3 door) Cosworth is in a hundred separate pieces and put it together like a Caterham - you won't be able to drive one home.  Anyone that's driven their first Cossie home for the first time will appreciate that it's a buzz like no other.  I have neither the time, space, or inclination to build a car - repairing my own when there's a minor mechanical fault is enough of a hardship as I don't have a four post ramp in my front room - my garage is the great British outdoors!  So when the time comes to get another Cossie, instead of that "Cossie buzz", I'll get bits of several others from ebay, which I think is a crying shame.
