When driven theres a tappety sound on acceleration, iv been told this could be the Followers being nakard!
So last night i took off the rocker cover and inspected what i had, i removed all the followers and checked them, few are worn on the base.
New Set ordered from Burtonpower this morning so when they arrive will give them a nice soak in some new oil overnight then fit them!
hopefully this will solve the problem  Cool I plan on rebuilding the head at some stage too.

Who ever had the car before me bodged the back two bolts that hold the rocker cover on... there not the right ones!!  Head v Brick Wall i found one bolt and washer tucked down near the injectors lol  Roll Eyes

nice motor! I've read quite a few Cvh tech manuals/strip down guides that say changing worn followers won't fix it for long, as they'll just burr on the cam. might be worth sliding that out and checking how worn it is

you say the noise is when you accelerate? if its doing it only on acceleration you may have too much advance on dizzy. i would get it checked over as it will wreck you engine. when i had my rst after working on it i had the dizzy slightly out and never noticed until my mate said "your cars pinking" i just thought it was the followers.

Don't say things like that, my Saff taps after it's warmed up. Sad

I think you could be rite you know, as i have noticed that the needle on my rev counter sits at the bottom perfect wen the car isnt running like it should do but on tick over it goes up to 2000 rpm which is way too high for tick over!! how do i adjust the advance on the dizzy then??? wanna get this sorted asap!! help!!!

The old trick of retarding the ignition for unleaded fuel was to twist the dizzy by a few degrees.  Really you need someone with timing gear to tell whether it needs advancing or retarding.

set the timing up on saturday, was a slight too much advance but got it spot on with a timing gun. The noise is a bottom end noise for sure! fitted new followers and did an oil change and still no difference. could be worn bearings or worn crank??? hoping to have the engine out soon for a re build!  Funky Banana

If it's not tappets or timing, look at the little ends. Wink

Good man! The one you don't want is the navy blue and chrome effect, as per the new cars...... it's the light blue and silver that is the item needed for the Series 2... old skooool! Grin

Next time i get my car out, i'll get the ruler out and measure the original badge on my car Wink
