Winter tinkering

I will be honest i am struggling to find the time to keep you all updated but here is a brief heads up on whats happened so far.


The car is floating, very reminisant of the RS2000



The car is also in pieces, and as you will know the aim of this is an engine bay freshen up.

Total spent so far £725   Its not arrived yet so i will keep you guessing as to what ive bought

Indeed i am, but at least with this model some of the bufty parts also make it faster

3 bar MAP, dark greens or blacks, breather.  That's all you need under that bonnet.

And a T4 if you're feeling brave, or rich.

My enthusiasm for tinkering also took a nose dive, directly proportional to the outside temperature.

Matt - you should've gone for the black Air-tec ones - so much sexier, and they perform better too.

Will the car need setting up tho when thats been plumbed in?

Just a rad and intercooler won't need a setup, but I hope you got one of the rad fan switches from MSD Matt - not so important now it's cold and off the road, but you'll notice the fans being more active when you do get it back on the road with the standard switch.

agreed the switch is a must have item. but looking very sexy. but as said the airtec ones have come out better in tests and are nearly £100 cheaper.

Thats a good point actually, the switch would be a wise investment......... theres a few places it can be placed and out of the way to kep the interior looking nice and original.

It's the switch in the rad mate.

Steve is thinking of the old skool override switch, the one you can turn on as soon as you get stuck in traffic to get the temps down early.

I havent got one yet but its on the list.

I will need a setup, as some little rascal decided to tune the car with the amal valve disconnected. If i simply reconnect it, the boost will be all over the place

The actuator rod's probably wound up tighter than a banker's wallet!

Plumb the amal valve back in, and adjust the actuator rod so it's just a bit shorter than it needs to be to go onto the wastegate arm.  Tada.

Just plumbing the amal valve back in is likely to end in Warp Factor 9 followed by an expensive ride in the back of an AA van.  I got lucky when I did plumbed mine in - 2 bar from a T3 is incredible, especially when the chip and injectors are only just sufficient for 1 bar!  Good job I backed off after the first 'experiment' and nursed it home.  Who needs anti-lag. lol

Yep, thats the one Matt..... i've always thought that was an excellent idea, especially for big power cars. Don't see it quite so often now, but Craig has one in his Series 2

Ah...I had to put one in my twincam Sierra because the fan switch was duff.

This arrived the other day, a superb find as it is a genuine Cosworth item (note the 'ACE 14' sticker on the back) and i only paid £10 for it.

I know its mangled but i plan to fit a Pectel monitor into it as well as an AFR gauge and a slightly more accurate boost gauge. They will fit in the place of the two centre vents and the clock. Hopefully all moulded into a neat panel shaped and sprayed to match the original plastic.

The plan is to make it look like it left the factory with it, just as Nathan has done with his boost controller (any pics Nath)

And before you ask a cossie item IS different to a standard MK5, does any one know why?

I assume it's something to do with the clock mounting that makes it different?

Nice find Matt, would be a bit nasty to chop up the original item......... this way, you still keep up the tradition of having all the standard parts
