Today's update!
Got a present from the postman
Which revealed this!
No more debadged grill. Will fit it tomorrow if it doesn't chuck it down all day. Should make an improvement. The current grill will be kept and I may try and do it properly, building the fins up so it's all even, just to see how it looks.
Back to the wheels. Bought more Nitromors as I'm getting through it at a rate of knots! The paint they used on these wheels is tough!
Anyway, todays pictures:
My awesome rubber gloves from Wilkinson! These are supposed to be chemical resistant so suitable for this kind of thing. They're melting....
Interestingly, you can see the wheel on the right here is much darker than all the others, so perhaps that's already had a refurb at some point in it's life, or is from a different batch or something. Paint seems to come off a bit easier on that one.
This is how they are as of now. Was getting dark again so the pictures aren't great (I do hate winter), but they are getting there slowly.
The paint seems to be hard as nails, which is slowing me down a bit, but hopefully they'll be ready for the paintshop sometime next week. The weather is trying it's best to halt progress of course, but it was only raining lightly this afternoon, so carried on regardless. Be bloody glad when they're done though, I have no patience for this kind of thing!
On a positive note, I managed to avoid getting it on my skin today for the most part

I just had a twisted idea - paint the whole car white and stick blue lights on the top - you'll never have a problem in the outside lane ever again

Todays update!
Quite small I'm afraid. Weather is crap, it's cold and fookin windy and keeps raining on and off so I don't much fancy tackling the wheels today.
On another note, I did however fit the standard grill, which is a big improvement. I may still get another and mess with it slightly, perhaps keeping the surround and badge etc chrome but painting the slats satin black. Who knows!
Anyway, couple of pictures...
Big improvement methinks, but the bumper cappings just look awful! I might pop out in a bit with some trim restorer and try it on the front one, see what effect it has, as it's bugging the hell out of me.
Anyway, that's it for now, weather is ruining things a bit

Another update.
I'm sick of these bloody wheels
Decided now they've all reached a certain point, that I'd attack them on an individual basis to get them to bare metal. I didn't spend too long on it today, as to be honest, it was fookin cold, and I'm quite lazy. But this is the end result...
Pretty much there, just need to sort out the wheel bolt holes, but will do that with the Dremel when they're all at this stage. The first layer of paint seems to come off with ease, the undercoat however is a different story. It's rock 'ard, takes a lot of work to get it off!
Crap time of year to be doing this, but never mind

I thought I'd make mention of the sexy gloves
They're supposed to be chemical resistant, hence why I bought them. But they're melting, and the fingers are now a funny shape. I didn't expect them to be great, but I may as well just worn normal marigolds

Mmmmmmm, that's got some style!!!
Anyway, another update!
Right, as you've been reading, I've been stripping a set of Volvo alloys for my car, which I intend to have fitted in the future. I wanted to get them on pretty sharpish, as the tyres on the car were pretty poor, but uni is getting pretty busy now, I've got plenty of assignments to be getting on with, and messing about prepping the other wheels isn't really top priority, so I've decided to put them on the back burner for a bit.
This left a problem as my tyres were getting a wee bit bald! I didn't fancy putting tyres on the 16s, as that would have cost about £300 for something decent, which is money that I'd never see any real return on. Then it just so happened that while brousing a Volvo forum, I saw another set of wheels advertised with decent tyres! After seeing a few pictures, I made an offer and picked them up Monday!
This might seem mad to some, but these cost less than it would cost for a new set of tyres for the 16s, and shouldn't really lose any money if I don't chew them up too much. They aren't in perfect condition, but not too bad. They'll keep me legal and I can put the refurb on hold while I concentrate on uni for a bit. I just couldn't resist. I took them to a local tyre place today and had them all balanced and they put them on for me, as it was raining so I didn't really fancy doing it on the drive and getting wet!
Few pictures I took a little while ago. Apologies the car is still filthy, the weather is pretty crap here so I've not been able to clean it. I'll get some better ones when it's clean, and the light was fading so the camera was struggling a little!
I think they've transformed it! It looks so much better with these on!
It just needs the clear side repeaters from a later S/V70 and I think the outside is about right apart from a bit of a tidy up.
These aren't a permanent addition, when the other set are refurbed, they'll go on, but these keep me legal and I shouldn't really lose anything, so it's a win win I reckon

Those wheels and the grille have transformed the look of that car Jon, looks soooooooo much better now
Sounds like these were a bargain tho and means that now you have a second set to keep original, the refurbed ones could maybe see a change of colour as you can have the best of both worlds so to speak
