Where to start??
Well the turbos off road for the time being, ive been sorting out my future plans for the beauty, but im not very mechanically minded so I'm looking for some advice before i start the engine modifications early next year.

At the mo Ive taken off the front bumper off, im just assessing the amount of rust and corrosion thats occured and it actually doesnt look too bad for its age. Although it already looks and feels as thos it'd already been filled and painted before. Im now tidying it up and killing of the rest of the rust of underneath. Im planning to fill the gaps and patches before i prep, primer and re-paint it. My goal is to get it all looking smooth and clean again but whether it happens or not is a different matter  Huh?

I know this is just minor cosmetics but it'll help neaten up, maintain and keep the car tidy before my real work begins.

So, the plan is....and this is what i may need sum advice for....To upgrade the standard T3 turbo on the RS to a either a stage 2 or 3 hybrid turbo. Carl had already put a bigger intercooler on so i know this will aid in running the bigger turbo and boost.
Along with this i was thinking maybe id need to change the pistons, maybe the crank/shaft, injectors, actuator, gaskets and other vital things like that.
Id rather ask for sum professional advice before i attempt this as i dont just wana stick a bigger turbo in and blow it us cos the other components cant handle the boost.

So i just wanna know, if i were to stick a stage 2/3 hybrid in, what other precautions and other components would u reccomend me changeing or upgrading to cope with the new power please. ?? Now if i can figure how to put pictures up on here i can show you my work so far!!

Many thanks

Agreed, my only advice, and the only advice you should listen to, is go and talk to Christian at APT. He's a top lad, and between you and me, enjoys a bit of man love Wink

Ive spoke to Christian like u guys suggested (thanks for that he was very helpful guys!)
He said these cars are very awkward to tune etc! He recommended the Stage 2 safely with the car
cos of its age and engine usage/milage etc. He also said i should look into an engine rebuild soon + possibly an EFI conversion to help it run at its
potential on the stage 2. Then if i wanted to upgrade to stage 3 hybrid later i could.
Im Looking at a fair few bucks b4 shes finished now boys but ill treat myself  when i come out of phase 1 training with the army. lol

So it begins....

Sounds good Luke! Good man for contacting Christian too, as his advise is sound thumbsup

I'm not surpised about the cost your looking at here tho, as RS Turbos are cheap as chips to tune up to stage 1 and a little more (this is what i did with my old one, and for the money spent, the car really was awesome.) but big power = big money lol. Will be worth it tho Wink

My m8 craig sorted me out for putting these pictues up, just to show u what ive been messing round with ...

A gaping hole with rust....

Sanded and cleaned

Filled, Primed and prepped

Final outcome

Shined up the intercooler, can u see the difference on the top 2 sides?

The cable snapped of joining to the alternator, it didnt have much give in it so when we hit HIGH revs the movment of the engine caused the cable to break. (we think)
So we decided to solder a piece of wire on to give it that extra give for future high speeds lol

Problem, we've hit a snag getting the pistons and con rods! The lad wanted more money due to the VAT increase which i dont have right now, and which i wont be able to get hold off untill i leave phase one of my army training. SO ive asked for the money back, so when i do finish i can put another £250 saved up from training and purchase some forged pistons n rods of         ---> performanceenginecomponents.com  <---. So thats on holkd til i come back. Apart from that everythings ready to put together after i get the block skimmed and bored!

im not fussed, as i couldnt really have done much before i went away anway, sod it. i did have the choice to just buy the pistons and use the zetec rods. but i said no, id rather take my money back, save a little more then get the propa good + expensive items designed to do the trick. I wont be going through a 3rd party to get the pistons and rods next time so ill know EXACLTY hwta ill be getting + it will seem more lagit too. Anyway steve, see u at the next meet.
